Measurements & photo guidelines

Sketch of room & measurements

1. Take a piece of paper (or graph paper). Don’t worry too much about drawing straight lines or getting the proportions correct.   As long as all the measurements are accurate – that’s all that matters.

2. Imagine you are looking down on the room. Draw the shape you see.  Please see our example.

3. Show all doors (which way they open), windows, radiators, fireplaces, built-in-cupboards, and sockets.

4. Please indicate the direction in which the door opens, using the curved arrow, again as per the example. If your room has alcoves or columns, please also show them.

5. Draw anything which is fixed to the walls of the room such as fireplaces, built in cabinets/wardrobes, TV etc that you want to keep.

6. Make sure you measure the ceiling height, the length of each wall, the distance from the floor to all windows together with the window sizes and any permanent fixtures and don't forget to label everything.

Photos of room to decorate

1. We don't need professional photos, any snaps will do

2. Photograph your room by standing in each corner and take a photo facing towards the centre of the room

3. Be sure to include photos of each wall and label them as North, South, East and West.
